– Every time a virus adapts to the body of a new animal species, we are concerned – said Jay Varma, deputy commissioner for combating chorób at the New York City Department of Health.
The virus has infected some 45 catsów from a shelter in Manhattan. The person infected with bird flu from a cat is a veterinarian working at this shelter. While the virus shows no signs of being easily transmitted from catsów on humans, it seems to spread very quickly from cat to cat.
Not only is this the first time we’ve seen the virus spread from cat to human, but it’s also the first time it’s spread so easily from bird to cat.
The good news is that the subtype of the H7N2 virus is not specificólnie virulent. The infected veterinarian experienced mild symptomsóin disease and its body is coping well with the infection.
The Manhattan animal shelter employs nearly 300 waspsób, but only one contracted bird flu from a cat. At least only one person has reported it.
The cat, from whichórego infected by the doctor was put to sleep. Not because of the disease, but because it was an old individual and it seemed that his body could not handle the infection. The remaining cats with bird flu are being treated.
Bird flu has also appeared in Poland. A nationwide ban on live poultry trade has been imposed. A regulation on the matter was issued by the Minister of Agriculture. The ban also includes organizing róof the exhibitions and the showóinvolving a birdów. Veterinary inspection advises poultry farmers to keep birds indoors.
